Stalking The Wild Mind
My belief that everything has energies began when I took a class in college called, “Stalking the Wild Mind: The Psychology and Folklore of Extra-Sensory Perception and Psychic Phenomena.” We read cool books from The Dancing Wu Li Masters, to books on Quantum Physics. It was required to purchase a dowsing rod and optional to buy a pendulum. We talked about the many worlds theories and Schrodinger’s Cat, and we did exercises dowsing for energy. It was a mind opening class.
Our group did a paper on automatic writing and channeling. We analyzed whether we were channeling forces outside of ourselves, or from our own mind. It was a pretty cool class, and it was also voted in the top 10 mickey mouse classes to take by some national magazine at the time. But what did they know. The class was a mind opening experience that continued as I traveled around the world after college.
Travels Around The World
I once was working in a bar in Antigua Guatemala when a guy came in, sat down at the bar, order a beer and said, “You see colors around people and you need to know what they mean.” he proceeded to tell me about all colors and what they mean. Also during my 6 months in Guatemala, I was living in a small village in the mountains and went to see a fortune teller who read your energy. She had her old wrinkled fingers on my arm and said, “You have the ability to do what I do.”
My travels took me around the world, through 5 continents over a 13 year period where I lived in a Buddhist Dojo, disrupted the quiet at a silent retreat, communed with nature, befriended dolphins, and generally had a good time. I read books on chakras, synchronicity, past-lives, and other metaphysical literature. All the while I felt a strong connection to the earth and ran into people who helped me further my energetic goals. But I always remained skeptical.
Even though I dabbled in automatic writing from my second year in college when I spent part of a summer living in the International Haunted House of Hell (More on that later), I forever remained a skeptic. I think I always maintained a level of skepticism because I didn’t want to be seen as this hippy-trippy airy-fairy weird woman. In fact when I did tell people about it, I always labeled it that, “hippy-trippy weird stuff.”
I forever wasn’t sure if it came from my own imagination, or something truly outside myself. Yet from time to time, things happen that I can’t ignore. Blenders with no buttons pressed in went off. Candle flames sitting on mantles scorched the ceiling. A dust buster with no one touching it proceeds to turn itself on. And then there was the time every window in my car rolled down as I was driving…yes from time to time things outside myself have tried and succeeded to get my attention.
Yes still I keep a centered approach to this all. Recently the term “grounded woo woo” was introduced to me. I like that. I think it describes those of us who want to believe in the metaphysical energetic magic around us, without needing to dress up like a belly dancer and gaze into a crystal ball. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Energy Of Stones and Essential Oils
The energy of the stones seems like a perfect extension and meditative balance to other ideas and experiences I’ve encounter. As I work with the stones, I feel the same connection to the earth I felt when I was traveling. This is something that has been lacking in my world since I grounded myself in the United States back in 2006. (except for the occasional vacation) As I began playing with the stones and posting pictures of necklaces people began to ask about whether or not I would sell them.
Then another friend came to me and asked if I’d consider making oil diffusers. She thought the energetic quality of the pure essential oils would lend itself nicely to my beaded chains. I was like nah, don’t even know what a diffuser is! And then I started to look it up. And said, “ah-ha!” bringing together the natural mineral properties of the stones with the organic plant extracts of the oils seemed like a match made in the universe. So I began to create. And here we are!
